  This BMW / Mini Cooper Mechanical Chain tension tool is a cam timing tool component required for setting accurate cam timing of your BMW n42, n46, n52, n55, n62 or Mini Cooper N12, n14, n16, n18 cam shaft timing. When setting cam shaft timing, it is imperative that you have adequate timing chain tension. Unfortunately without engine oil pressure (a running engine) the factory chain tensioner does not have the required tension. The BMPdesign mechanical tensioner is a direct fit for the factory hydraulic unit , which can then be adjusted to the frequire pre-tension for test purposes. The Mechanical tension tool is also required for measuring the pressure requirement length for possible chain rail failure or excessive chain wear. Equivalent to Factory BMW part 83 30 0 493 971
